Abstract

In what has become a cautionary tale for corporate security managers around the world, two former accountants for US networking giant Cisco Systems were sentenced last autumn to 34 months in prison for breaking into company computers and pilfering almost $8 million in stock. Over a period of six months in 2001, the two men forged forms authorizing the issuance of more than 275 000 shares of Cisco stock and directed the stock to be deposited into personal brokerage accounts.
