Definitions | The process or result of ordering of entities into exhaustive and mutually exclusive groups or classes on the basis of their similarity. In general, the aim of this process is to make groups as distinct as possible by maximizing within-group homogeneity and minimizing between-group heterogeneity. Classification may be unidimensional or multidimensional (Bailey, 1994, p. 1-4)
