The tranquility principle is a security principle. It states that assuring the security of a system requires that the tranquility property of that system shall be of either strong or weak levels, that are secure, but not no tranquility level, that is insecure.

A system that complies with the tranquility principle is tranquil.

Note

If not specified otherwise, the tranquility property refers to both security clearance levels and security classification levels. But the concept may be applied to only security clearance levels or security classification levels, in which case it is recommended to express it explicitly.
