3 Importance of Role Management

It became clear during research for this report that many enterprises are placing a premium on role management as it relates to an entitlement management deployment. Architects and others considering entitlement management products were not eager to launch into an implementation that perpetuates the excess complexity within existing application policy domains. Rather, these architects viewed a role abstraction layer as a valuable construct to rationalize the policy environment by bringing structure and organization to the view of system users as well as to the privileges and entitlements within the application. In the absence of roles, policy rules must replicate the intricacies of each application. With a role abstraction layer, it is expected that roles can compress the policy model and make it more manageable.
