Polysemy

In principle, polysemy is limited in LSPs because only one subject area is taken into consideration, but it often happens, through historical evolution and use of terms from other areas, that the same linguistic expression can represent more than one specialised concept.

Polysemy is unavoidable. But one of the goals of this dictionary is to contribute to the accuracy of the IAM specialized language. In consequence it is recommended that all definitions be provided under polysemic terms and that preferred terms be suggested whenever possible to provide contextual clarity.
