Operational Taxonomic Unit. Also a biological term, operational taxo-
nomic unit (OTU) refers to the basic unit used in the numerical analysis.
Often the OTU is an individual organism, but it could be a group or some
other unit (see Sneath & Sokal, 1973, pp. 68-75).
