Identity Sprawl

Identity Sprawl

dictionary-term

Definition

Identity Sprawl is a phenomenon that takes place in the information system and is characterized by the proliferation of identities in Siloed Identity Repositories.

When a subject needs access to multiple systems that are Siloed Identity Repositories, multiple disjoint identity records are necessary. This leads to duplication of records, consistency issues, and difficulties to keep up with the lifecycle of identities. In consequence, Siloed Identity Repositories are a common contributing factor to Identity Sprawl and Orphan Accounts.
